Coney Island's Post Sandy Struggles

32-nf_hotdocs_01_(1)Nathan FitchJan 9, 2013

This short piece examines the ongoing challenges that face the people of the Coney Island community in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.  Weeks after the storm, when most of New York had returned to normal, 81-year-old Coney Island native Adeline is living without heat or electricity.  Across the street from Adeline, Abel and his large extended family have received no assistance from the state/federal government or their landlord (who never showed up to check on his property after the storm).  These two stories are representative of the ongoing challenges that continue to face people without the financial resources or political clout to actively advocate for themselves following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
