The Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective is a tight-knit community of professional filmmakers in Brooklyn, NY who are dedicated to innovative approaches to filmmaking. The collective comes together through weekly peer workshops to provide sustained feedback and critiques throughout the life of its members' projects. It is the mission of the BFC to inspire groundbreaking films and maximize exposure of the best work from Brooklyn-based filmmakers.
The BFC consists of some of Brooklyn’s most accomplished and promising emerging filmmakers. Collectively we have produced work for the Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, Slamdance Film Festival, A&E, PBS, HBO, IFC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, MTV, France 3, The Smithsonian, and Al Jazeera. Our members have received awards from Sundance, Independent Spirit Awards, Student Academy Awards, HBO New York International Latin Film Festival, and IFP and has had work nominated for the national Academy Awards.
Currently, we are not accepting new members. We typically do a new member call-out in mid-August. Follow us on twitter/FB for updates.
The BFC centers on weekly peer workshops with a small group of filmmakers. Each week, two members present their work, discuss issues and ideas related to their project, receive feedback and discuss production, funding, and distribution strategies with other group members. Periodically, the BFC also invites guest filmmakers and industry representatives to share their experiences and engage with members' work.
BFC works closely with film festivals, museums, galleries, and theaters throughout New York City to promote and exhibit the best of its members work.
